Hellboy Will Be Making His Wrestling Debut Early Next Month (Seriously)

Hellboy might not have made much of an impact on the box office but there are some fans who appreciated what the film tried to do. While not the blockbuster that everyone wanted it to be, the character's popularity will always remain, thanks to the previous films from Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola's excellent comic books featuring the character.

It looks like Japan wants to add to the character's legacy since Hellboy will be wrestling there soon. No, we don't mean one of those wrestling comics that feature the character (there are a number of those) but an actual wrestler who will dress up as Hellboy and do moves to other wrestlers in the ring.

So, in a move that nobody expected, All Japan Pro Wrestling has announced Hellboy will team with Jake Lee and Koji Iwamoto against Takao Omoro, Black Menso~Re and Hokuto Omori in a six-man tag team match. This will be a part of the company's 2019 Summer Explosion: Final Battle event. Hellboy is billed as 6'9 and weighs at about 500 pounds, with officials allowing him to use his Red Right Hand.

Weirdly enough, this isn't the first wrestlers have dressed up as fictional characters to wrestle, and no, we don't mean tribute vests. Robocop once appeared on WCW and saved Sting during the 1990 Capitol Combat event. There was also a Japanese wrestler who made a career of wrestling as Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Hellboy is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital outlets.
