Hasbro's M.A.S.K. Movie Gets Straight Outta Compton Director

The executives of Hasbro has made it clear that they want to rival the success of Marvel with their newly formed Allspark Pictures studio. While the fate of Transformers post-Bumblebee isn't too well-known, the studio is working on a live-action film for Rom: Spaceknight. Now, Hasbro is working on another one of their properties to get the movie treatment; M.A.S.K.

For the uninitiated, M.A.S.K. stands for Mobile Armored Strike Kommand. The live-action film will be built based on the '80s Kenner action figures and the animated series. MASK is a task force led by Matt Trakker whose goal is to take out the criminal organization V.E.N.O.M., which stands for Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem.

Deadline has confirmed that Straight Outta Compton's F. Gary Gray will direct the film, as well as co-produce with Hasbro. This isn't the first time Gray has worked on a franchise, previously working on The Fate of The Furious as part of the Fast and Furious franchise.

Gray's interest in the film is due to the fact that it's a vintage property that can be revamped. The director also feels like the film can say something to a contemporary audience if done right. As for Paramount, they feel like this franchise is something the studio needs to rebuild itself.
