First Trailer for the New Pokemon Anime Has Arrived, Teases Pikachu's Origin Story

The first trailer for the new Pokemon anime is here and it's interesting, to say the least. Fans hoping for a completely different art style from Pokemon Sun and Moon are going to be pretty disappointed since they look pretty familiar. That being said, it looks like the new anime will be covering a lot of different stories we haven't seen before and we don't just mean the upcoming Sword and Shield critters.

Most fans knew that the new Pokemon anime would revolve around Ash and his new friend Go, the latter of whom has a Scorbunny from Sword and Shield. Ash will still have Pikachu, of course, but what's interesting is that the footage is teasing this Pokemon's origin for the very first time. That's right, we're getting a Pikachu origin story as some of the footage shows the iconic critter as a Pichu.

It also looks like we're getting a bit of a redux on how Ash meets Pikachu, this time from the Electric-type Pokemon's perspective. There's also a scene that mirrors the recent film I Choose You, where Ash throws his Pokeball-shaped alarm clock but with Pikachu on his bed this time around. We can look at this as Ash simply missing another appointment he was supposed to have in the morning.

Fans in Japan will be able to catch the new Pokemon anime on November 17, two days after the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield. The West will probably get this anime once Sun and Moon finish the English dub.
