Marvel movies and comics have always been praised for taking current problems and presenting them on the big screen in an epic way. Fans loved how Black Panther had a 98% black cast and enjoyed the company's first female-led film Captain Marvel. However, the movies have been criticized for not taking on darker topics like in the comic books, something a My Hero Academia fan pointed out really well.
Despite the fact that Marvel movies have been around for a while, My Hero Academia beat them when it came to an incredibly relevant topic; viral YouTube videos inspiring younger people to become hate-filled killers. It's something the real-world has been going through lately, like the recent shooter who told people to "subscribe to PewDiePie," so the fact that the anime and manga have already tackled this issue is saying something.
What's even more interesting is the fact that it's an old arc. Hero Killer Stain was an arc about the titular character who made a living out of killing heroes he deemed unworthy of the title. While he was eventually beaten by Midoriya, Todoroki, and Iida, his words reached a lot of people on the internet and inspired them to become members of The League of Villains.
Marvel did technically reference these alt-right videos with Nick Spencer's Captain America series, which had Red Skull recruiting young people into Hydra. Still, it would reach more people if Marvel did it in movie form, which would really work for a Captain America movie. Yeah, Chris Evans will probably leave the MCU after Avengers: Endgame but he's already fighting Nazis on Twitter.
Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26. My Hero Academia will return with season 4 on October.
