Death Stranding Gamescom Trailer Finally Explains Those Damn Babies (Sort Of)

Hideo Kojima showed off Death Stranding again during Gamescom and, well, it sure was more of Death Stranding. That's not a negative comment about the game mind you, it's just not easy to explain, showing just how creative Hideo Kojima is, though some would argue that he's up in his own ass. This new trailer was mostly confusing but it did kind of explain some of the game's odder concepts, particularly why everyone is carrying those darn babies.

Okay, so we're introduced to a character called Mama, played by Margaret Qualley, who has an invisible baby. Yikes, that got more confusing. Basically, babies are the reason why characters can shift between the "real" world and the afterlife. This is why Norman Reedus' character is able to explore the afterlife with his baby, called Bridge Baby and shortened to BB, which is typical Kojima.

Why do the babies have a connection to the afterlife? You could argue that it's because babies are new to life and therefore closer to death but that's never confirmed in this (or any) trailer. Still, it gets us thinking and that's one thing we can all credit Kojima for; the guy has us thinking while we play.

Except for Metal Gear Solid V but that's not completely his fault.

Say what you will about Kojima but the guy is an artist, which is probably why he's a wee bit pretentious. Whatever the case, this feels like an artist-driven game and not a corporate sellout banking on huge trends.

Death Stranding comes to the PS4 on November 8. You can check out the Death Stranding Gamescom trailer above.
