Cosmic Ghost Rider Brings Vengeance and Punishment to the Guardians of the Galaxy

Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw might be heading towards unfamiliar territory with January's Guardians of the Galaxy but the two are bringing in someone familiar to make the trip feel easier. Marvel has confirmed that Cosmic Ghost Rider will be the first new member of the Guardians of the Galaxy via a recent teaser image, with a number of silhouettes teasing different members of the group.

It's hard to decipher the other members of the group, though it Groot might be one of them. Marvel will probably hype up the comic by revealing a new member in a semi-daily basis, which has become the publisher's MO. While cliche, it is somewhat exciting to see who will be in this group, especially with Cates and Shaw running the comic.

Plus, one of the popular Guardians is going to die in Infinity Wars. Having a comic book that doesn't try to feel like an MCU property is going to be very refreshing for those that are a bit tired of Marvel's corporate synergy. It's not yet known which Guardian will die but it probably won't be Star-Lord.

Cosmic Ghost Rider first debuted in Cates and Shaw's Thanos run, which was short but epic. The character is currently in a mini-series, also written by Cates, and is essentially a sequel to Thanos Wins since this version of Ghost Rider, who is Frank Castle, is trying to help Baby Thanos be better. This hilariously results in Thanos becoming The Punisher but that probably won't last.

Fans will have to wait and see how this iteration of the group is going to turn out, especially now that Cosmic Ghost Rider is in. He's supposed to be from an alternate future, so bringing him to the present is going to be a lot of fun.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 comes out on January 23.
