Colin Farrell Reportedly in Talks to Play Penguin in The Batman

Just when you thought Andy Serkis being Alfred was the biggest news surrounding The Batman, Deadline has announced that Fantastic Beasts and Daredevil (2003) star Colin Farrell is in talks to play The Penguin. This is a bit unexpected since The Penguin is usually portrayed as a heavy man so casting Farrell, assuming he accepts, would make this a pretty unusual casting that should get a lot of people talking.

Farrell is still in negotiations so we'll have to wait and see if this casting ends up becoming a reality, though it would be awesome if that were the case. It would be cool seeing Farrell as a character like Oswald Cobblepot, whose gravitas makes him a cinch for great performances. This would be an awesome role for Farrell so here's hoping that he accepts.

If Farrell accepts, then we're going to have a three-villain Batman movie, something we haven't had since Batman and Robin (shudders). Then again, Catwoman is more of an anti-hero than a straight-up supervillain depending on who the writer is. Still, it's going to be awesome seeing how these three interact, especially since they all have such big egos.

There are a lot of characters in this movie so here's hoping that Matt Reeves can juggle all of them well, especially since films with so many villains tend to be messy. Then again, this could be a fun mess so let's see what happens.

The Batman will be coming out on June 25, 2021.
