China Shuts Down Movie Theaters Again One Week After 600 Were Re-Opened

Just when it seemed like there was hope for movie theaters to become relevant again, China has decided to get our anxiety up by announcing that they are closing all of their theaters again, days after 500-plus theaters were opened to the public. It seems like China doesn't want to rest on their laurels after COVID-19 seems to have subsided as they don't want a second wave of infections to spread, which is fair game since the pandemic did originate from the country.

The news was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter and it looks like they won't be reopening theaters right away. Apparently, they want to make sure that there's no chance of a pandemic happening again so we can sort of respect them for that. It's just a shame that they gave the green light last week since it did give local theater owners some hope since America's movie business isn't looking too hot right now.

We hope that the movie theater business booms again after this Coronavirus pandemic has subsided since it looks like a lot of people are in trouble. Thankfully, a number of high-profile movies like Black Widow, The New Mutants, Mulan, Wonder Woman 1984, and so much more are expected to debut once this pandemic blows over. Let's hope things truly get better as we leave the pre-pandemic era behind and enter the post-pandemic one with grace.

No timetable has been given as to when China will be reopening its movie theaters but don't expect it to be quick.
