Captain Marvel: Nick Fury Almost Lost His Eye in a Much Better Way

No matter how you feel about Captain Marvel, we can all agree that the way Nick Fury lost his eye was a massive disappointment. Sure, we all knew Goose would be involved with it in a way but the fact that it was a mere scratch was a letdown. Admittedly, Fury telling people that he lost the eye over a Kree battle or from someone he trusted makes him the biggest joker in the MCU, which is amusing in its own right.

However, directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck revealed that they considered having Fury lose his eye in a very different way; and it would have been a lot better. During an interview with ComicBookMovie, they discussed the possibilities of how Fury would lose his eye, saying that a fight with the Skrulls almost resulted in the traumatic event.

"There were definitely a lot of discussions and that was not the first idea on the table. You're probably going to ask me what some of the other ideas were and I don't know if I can tell you that, not because I'm hiding anything, but because there were just so many absurd ideas we had. There was a strong contender for a while that a fight with the Skrulls seemed like the most obvious choice, but then the more we thought about it, it just became too obvious."

It's a shame that they didn't go the obvious route because making it a joke was a dull result. These kinds of twists are prevalent in MCU movies, like The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 simply being an actor. Hopefully, phase four stops with these lame twists and gives fans much more satisfying resolutions (though I personally loved that Iron Man 3 twist).

Captain Marvel is coming to digital services on May 28 and in Blu-Ray on June 11.
