Captain Marvel Goes to the Dark Side in 'The Last Avenger'

It looks like Carol Danvers is about to take a dark turn this November as Captain Marvel #12 will be the start of The Last Avenger, a story that seemingly turns our cosmic-powered heroine evil. The cover from Mark Brooks, which can be seen below, has Danvers in a new costume and sees The Avengers losing to her in battle. Now that's one way to get everyone's attention.

How Carol enters this dark and deadly new direction wasn't explained so fans that might want to know this should probably start collecting this series. For now, this looks like an intriguing new arc for the character, though we doubt that she'll be evil for good; at most, she's probably possessed by someone or this is a doppelganger, though that would feel like a ripoff.

CBR has revealed the synopsis for this new arc. Kelly Thompson will continue writing the series, while artist Lee Garbett joins her for this dark story:

Captain Marvel has fought off alien hordes. Rescued X-Men. Punched Thanos in the face. Literally saved the world. She now faces her greatest challenge: kill the Avengers. Has one of the world's most powerful heroes gone dark? But why? And what does this mean for Carol... for the world? Life on Earth will never be the same. Kelly Thompson teams up with Eisner-nominated artist Lee Garbett for a brand-new arc -- and a bold new direction!

We'll have to wait and see how this arc goes but it should be interesting, to say the least. I think Carol is an alright character and seeing the fallout of her evil actions should make her much more interesting.
