Blizzard Cancels Overwatch Switch Event Due to Hearthstone Controversy

It's not a good time to be Blizzard right now. The company rightfully got a lot of criticism for suspending Hearthstone player Blitzchung for speaking out about liberating Hong Kong, taking away his prize money, and firing the two announcers who did nothing wrong since they were just conducting the interview. While Blizzard has made some amends - shortening Blitzchung's suspension from one year to six months and giving him his prize money back - the fact that they're saying China had nothing to do with their decision has made many fans boycott Blizzard.

Due to all the controversy surrounding the company, they have decided to cancel the Overwatch Switch event that was supposed to take place in Nintendo NYC. On Twitter, Nintendo NYC stated that Blizzard pulled the event without giving a proper reason, though most of us can guess why. It's an ugly situation all around and that could impact the Switch port's release.

Considering all of the controversy surrounding Blizzard and Activision, one has to wonder about BlizzCon 2019. It's still going to happen next month but there are already protests planned for the event. One thing is for certain; it's going to be one hell of a mess and us, fans, might not be able to keep our eyes away from it.

That being said, if you do plan on picking up Overwatch on Nintendo Switch, it's fine. While supporting Blizzard isn't looked highly on these days, no one should shame you for buying something you love. Just make sure to use Mei and make your support for Hong Kong's liberation known.

Overwatch comes to Nintendo Switch tomorrow on October 15.
