Before You Watch Sonic the Hedgehog in Theaters, Check Out His Anime on Netflix

As we wait for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie to come out in theaters, especially with the improved redesign, fans in North America might be interested to know that the old Sonic X anime is coming to Netflix early next month. It's an animated series with an interesting legacy and a lot of fans so seeing it in modern times is going to be one heck of an experience.

Sonic X is the only Sonic the Hedgehog anime to come out and actually features a number of the character's supporting cast, who usually only appears in the video games. While there were successful Western shows of the character, like the 26-episode Sonic the Hedgehog animated series that debuted in 1993, Sonic X was the only one that adapted stories from the video games.

Fans have a mixed opinion on this show, enjoying some of the episodes and animation but hating human characters like Chris, who was meant to be our point-of-view protagonist. It was the last Sonic animated series until the emergence of Sonic Boom a few years ago, though that was entirely CGI while Sonic X was drawn traditionally, for the most part.

It will be interesting to see how some younger fans react to Sonic X, though there's a good chance that they will like it. Hopefully, it renews interest in a new Sonic cartoon or anime that showcases more of his supporting cast.

Sonic X debuts on Netflix on December 1. Sonic the Hedgehog comes to theaters on February 14, 2020.
