Batman: Damned #1 Digital Copies Censored, Future Printings Will Remove Nudity

Batman Damned #1 surprised fans in a big way and we don't mean by its story or art, which have been praised by critics. Well, the art technically had something to do with it as the first issue revealed to the world what Batman's Batawang looks like and it got the internet screaming.

DC seems to have taken notice and though they allowed the move, future printings of the comic will no longer have Bruce's privates for the world to see. As if that wasn't enough, DC will also censor the digital versions of the comic so that fans who plan to read it online will no longer see it.

While the series is part of Black Label, a new mature line of comics that allows creators to tell whatever story they want with these characters, DC felt that the nudity didn't fit in well with the story. This probably means that the graphic novel version will be censored, making it a not-so graphic novel.

On the plus side, those that have the issue now have a bonafide collector's item on their hands. Expect this comic to be rare in the future and go up in price due to the censorship. They say that controversy creates cash and it looks like that statement is very true for the first issue of Batman Damned. It will be interesting to see how the second issue does.

Batman Damned is the first series of the Black Label line, with more mature stories soon to come. Frank Miller and John Romita Jr. are set to launch Superman: Year One, which will detail how Superman's first year was like. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are also planning a new Batman tale, which should excite fans of Metal and their critically acclaimed New 52 run on the character.

Batman Damned #1 is available now.
