Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis sure has been keeping busy since his acclaimed trilogy. Granted, that trilogy is a decade or two old but it’s still what he’s most known for, though the director does have a number of other projects lined up. He’s going to direct a live-action remake of Pinocchio, which could be amazing and terrifying if done right, along with the Roald Dahl movie Witches, starring Anne Hathaway.

While all of those adaptations sound interesting, Zemeckis is also working on something original called Ares, which has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as “genre bending,” which is high praise, if anything else. The story will be written by Captain Marvel and Tomb Raider scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet, which is pretty cool.

Here’s a quick synopsis of Ares:

The story, described as genre-bending, tells of an astronaut whose space capsule crash lands in an African desert. As he rushes to reunite with his family, it is revealed that the mission was part of a larger conspiracy and that he may be carrying a secret that could forever change the world.

There isn’t else much to go on when it comes to original plots but it’s always nice to see a veteran director try and do something different once in a while. Fans who are sick of all the adaptations, comic book movies, and reboots are probably hyped that something original is coming from the director of a classic trilogy like Back to the Future.

Granted, some fans might have doubts since Captain Marvel and the most recent Tomb Raider movies were pretty average. Still, there are much worse movies than those two and maybe this will be better.

No release date for Ares has been revealed.
