Avengers: Endgame Directors Finally Explain That Time Travel Plot Hole

Avengers: Endgame, despite giving in to time travel cliches and some deus ex machina, is a fantastic movie. That doesn't mean it's flawless since anyone who has seen the movie knows that it's chock-full of problems but that doesn't mean it has failed the MCU; on the contrary, it proves that cinematic universes can build up stories and they can pay off.

One common complaint that was made had to do with 2014 Thanos and how he was able to time travel to the five-year time jump. It was never fully-explained or shown in the film but the directors - Anthony and Joe Russo - have confirmed what happened in the commentary found in the digital release. Unsurprisingly, it's a theory that many of us had thought of when thinking about the possibilities.

The directors have claimed that Thanos and Ebony Maw were able to reverse engineer the Pym Particles and shrink their ship in order to make their way to the present. It's how The Black Order and his army was able to come in and cause some havoc, especially when they opened fire in the Avengers base.

It still would have been nice to see this in action but hey, we need drama in movies like this. If there was no Thanos in the climax, we wouldn't have had that explosive finale where all of the heroes returned, Seriously, that has to be the best climax in MCU history.

Avengers: Endgame can now be downloaded on digital stores. The Blu-Ray comes out on August 13.
