Avengers: Endgame Directors Comment on Losing Spider-Man

It was only a matter of time before we heard from Anthony and Joe Russo, aka the directors or Avengers: Endgame, about Disney losing Spider-Man. These two directors actually introduced Spider-Man to the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, with many of us remembering Spidey's amazing introduction during the Civil War trailer. Naturally, the two are disappointed with the news of Spidey's removal from the MCU because, well, who wouldn't be?

Both Joe and Anthony remembered how hard it was to get Spider-Man to join the MCU in the first place, recalling how hard it was for Kevin Feige to get the deal done. The fact that it was done in general was a cause of celebration for many since we've always wanted to see Peter Parker interact with these well-established characters. Many still love his relationship with Iron Man and it's a shame that we won't see Peter living up to his legacy anymore after Far From Home.

Here's what Joe told The Daily Beast:

"It wasn't easy. Kevin [Feige] went through a lot. There were a lot of ups and downs, and he kept walking into our office and we'd go, ‘Look, we've got to do it with [Sony],' and he'd go, ‘OK, I'll figure it out,' and walk back into his. He was looking for the way out. He wanted to open that door and have us go, ‘We figured it out! We don't need Spider-Man!' because it's a lot of work to get two major corporations to play nice with each other, and the fact that it happened at all, we should all be dancing and celebrating that we got that little bit of time."

Anthony also added:

"I think that's why Joe and I are not so devastated or surprised that there's been a falling-out, because it was so hard to make it happen in the first place."

Even with everyone's understanding of the situation, it still sucks to know that Spider-Man won't be around for any future Avengers films. Spider-Man: Far From Home seemed to position Peter as the new lead character of the MCU but that clearly won't be happening. I'll still watch Sony's Spider-Man movies but I can only hope that they manage to be of quality.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 1.
