Avengers: Endgame Almost had Bruce Banner Talking with Hulk for the Soul Stone

The Hulk's story in Avengers: Endgame ended in a humorous but somewhat disappointing way. Knowing that Bruce Banner merged himself with his Hulk persona to become Professor Hulk was a fun sight and seeing how he is loved by society now was a neat bonus since it's a status quo that will never happen in the comics. However, in getting Professor Hulk, we also lost some of the psychological warfare that can happen between the two personas, which is what makes Immortal Hulk so interesting.

It looks like we almost got something interesting in Avengers: Endgame with Hulk, at least according to co-writer Stephen McFeely. Speaking with CinemaBlend, McFeely revealed that there was a draft where Bruce Banner would have been one of the people who went to get the Soul Stone. As he finds out the price to get this Infinity Stone, there would have been an inner conversation between Banner and Hulk about what they should do.

"We did actually write a version, and this existed before The Ancient One scene was slowly beaten out. But there was a version where it was Banner talking to The Hulk… and we never shot it, but it was kind of a cool thing to get them both on screen together interacting."

As we all know, Banner ended up living through Endgame, albeit losing an arm and former love interest Black Widow. He technically has a happy ending and will likely play a vital role in the She-Hulk Disney+ series, which will probably cost a lot of money to make, at least when it comes to CGI.

Currently, there are no immediate plans for Hulk post-Avengers: Endgame. The movie is available now on Blu-Ray and DVD.
