Amazon Orders 'Paper Girls' Series Based on Acclaimed Image Comic Book

It seems like Amazon really wants to step it up and compete with Netflix and so far, they've been pretty successful. Good Omens is a critical success and American Gods gained similar praise when it first came out. Now, Amazon is putting their hats on the comic book ring, ordering a new series based on Paper Girls; an acclaimed Image Comics property from Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang.

Deadline reported that Toy Story 4 co-writer Stephany Folsom will be penning this adaptation. When you consider all the praise that the film has gotten, it's clear that Folsom is a good choice for this adaptation. Granted, the series has more in common with Stranger Things than Toy Story but it also has enough twists that should interest anyone, even if they haven't read the comics.

The series follows four young girls who, while out delivering papers on the morning after Halloween in 1988, become unwittingly caught in a conflict between warring factions of time-travelers, sending them on an adventure through time that will save the world. As they travel between our present, the past, and the future — they encounter future versions of themselves and now must choose to embrace or reject their fate.

Vaughan is pretty well-known as one of the comic industry's biggest writers, penning acclaimed books like Saga that have captured the world's attention. Obviously, Paper Girls is a part of that lineup as well and it's shocking to know that the series will be ending soon. That automatically means it will end better than HBO's Game of Thrones.

No release date for Paper Girls has been announced.
