Aladdin: Will Smith's Genie is Officially Blue and We Kind of Wish He Wasn't

When we were given our first look at the live-action Aladdin movie, fans were surprised to see Will Smith as a not-blue version of The Genie. May expressed disappointment in this since the character is synonymous with the color, as well as Robin Williams. Well, an early look at this film that screened during The Grammy's gave us our first look at blue Will Smith and, well, we are filled with regret.

Be careful what you wish for…

Okay, maybe it's not nightmare fuel but it is an acquired taste, to say the least. We knew that him being blue was going to be weird but seeing the acclaimed actor in an overly muscular CGI blue body has us freaking out. Maybe future images will make this look less odd but there's no doubt that this is kind of unsettling.

This is kind of why the realm of animation is perfect. You can design characters in ways that actual human beings don't appear in real-life, hence less jarring imagery. This is also a problem that the upcoming Lion King remake has to face since the realistic-looking animals might have a harder time emoting when compared to the gorgeous 2D film.

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney's animated classic, Aladdin is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, "Aladdin" is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney's "Aladdin." The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia; Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders; and Numan Acar as Hakim.

Aladdin comes out on May 24.
