New Tezzeret and Liliana From Magic: The Gathering's Core Set 2019 Revealed

The spoiler season for Magic: The Gathering's Core Set 2019 continues this week as two more Planeswalker cards from the upcoming set have been revealed. Yesterday, we got our first look at the new green Planeswalker, Vivien Reid. We know that Liliana, Tezzeret, Sarkhan, and Ajani will also be featured in the set, but for now, the Planeswalker cards from the Core Set 2019 Planeswalker decks have been revealed.

Just like recent Magic sets, there will probably be stronger versions of Liliana and Tezzeret in Core Set 2019. Planeswalker decks don't usually include powerful Planeswalkers that are playable in competitive Standard or Modern formats so it's not surprising to see how these cards are pretty weak compared to other Planeswalkers in Standard right now. As you can see, Tezzeret's ultimate is weird but it can work well with cards with the Morph ability. If you're able to pull off Tezzeret's ultimate, and put cards with Morph face-down, you can actually flip them, if I'm reading rule 707.8 correctly:

707.8. As a face-down permanent is turned face up, its copiable values revert to its normal copiable values. Any effects that have been applied to the face-down permanent still apply to the face-up permanent. Any abilities relating to the permanent entering the battlefield don't trigger and don't have any effect, because the permanent has already entered the battlefield.

It looks like they're scraping the barrel with these Planeswalker names. I just can't wait to see the rest of the Planeswalkers from Core Set 2019.

Core Set 2019 will be released on July 13, 2018. Prerelease events will take place on July 7 to 8.
