New Still From Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Reveals U-Wing Fighter

On the latest episode of The Star Wars Show today, hosts Peter Townley and Andi Gutierrez revealed a new still from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story along with a never-before-seen ship from the Star Wars spin-off. We've heard about this ship from various reports, but this is the first official reveal of the U-Wing from Lucasfilm.

The still (shown above) shows a spectacular view of Yavi IV's landscape that includes the iconic Massassi Temples, along a U-Wing floating above the collection X-Wings in the foreground. The Lucasfilm Story Group's Matt Martin appeared to share the news and provide details about the U-Wing. According to Martin, the ship's technical name is "Incom UT-60D" and it's a troop transport and gunship. The U-Wing's forward mandibles can fold out and back to accommodate different situations. He went on to ellaborate its purpose:

"It's there to bring in rebel troops to heavy fire zones and get our as quickly as possible... and provide air support."

Martin also said that the U-Wing was secretly revealed at last year's Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in the first piece of Rogue One concept (below). In the first episode of The Star Wars Show, Pablo Hidalgo also revealed the enw alien character, Bristan, is a door gunner on board a U-Wing Fighter in the movie.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16, 2016.
