New Star Wars Comic Helps Explain Why Rey Has Force Powers

Warning: Spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Darth Vader #10 ahead.

Ever since Rey was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, many have been wondering how she's connected to the Force in the first place. Star Wars: The Last Jedi didn't really explain why she has Force abilities but a new Darth Vader comic has provided an explanation for it.

When Star Wars: The Last Jedi revealed that Rey's parents were just "nobodies", some were surprised and upset after two years of speculation as the answer didn't reveal why she has Force abilities. She's no Kenobi, Skywalker or Palpatine, so how could she possibly have Force powers?

Marvel's Darth Vader #10, written by Charles Soule with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli, gives us more information about the true nature of the Force. In the comic, an old Jedi explains that the Force will exist as long as there is life in the galaxy. If all the Jedi are gone, the Force will simply find another person to pass those abilities.

This is revealed at the beginning of the issue, when the old Jedi Jocasta Nu begins to fight Darth Vader. Right after she realized that Vader was Anakin Skywalker, she begins explaining why his belief in Palpatine is misplaced.

"The Force is eternal," the old Jedi tells Vader. "It cannot be ended, it cannot be stopped, not so long as life exists. It will find its vessels. It always has – You know this. There are others, waiting out in the galaxy."

This shows us how Darth Vader's life mirrors Rey's backstory. She's from nowhere but the Force chose her.

Darth Vader #10 is now available in comic stores.
