New Photos of Idris Elba on the Set of The Dark Tower

New set photos of Idris Elba in costume as the Gunslinger for the upcoming sc-fi movie The Dark Tower were released through JustJared. The pictures were taken on location in New York City, where The Dark Tower is being filmed. More than ten pictures show Elba walking around in full costume.

The Dark Tower movie will adapt the series of novels by Stephen King. The eight novels follow a solitary gunslinger as he journeys towards a mysterious tower. Adaptations have been planned since 2010, where the plan was for the series to be adapted through alternating feature films and a televisions show. Warner Bros was eventually going to handle the project, but they eventually passed on it and Media Rights Capital is now handling the film.

Idris Elba will be playing the main character of the novel, Roland Deschain, the lone gunslinger journeying to the tower. Matthew McCounaghey will be playing a big antagonist in the novel, Randall Flagg, also known as The Man in Black. Set photos of McCounaghey in the character's ominous black garb were recently released through JustJared.

Stephen King said in an Entertaiment Weekly podcast that rather than being a direct and completely faithful adaptation of the first Dark Tower novel, The Gunslinger, the movie will begin "sort of in medias res, in the middle of the story instead of at the beginning, which may upset some of the fans a little bit. But they will get behind it, because it is the story."

The film is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel and the script was written by Akiva Goldsman. The premiere date is February 17 2017.

I think Idris Elba looks very snazzy in those photos. What do you think about Elba in the role? Are you looking forward to the Dark Tower movie?
