New Game of Thrones Story Included in Fantasy Anthology Released in 2017

With no definite release date yet for George R. R. Martin's tome Winds of Winter, the highly-anticipated next installment in his literary A Song of Fire and Ice, fans can whet their appetite temporarily with a new Game of Thrones-related story in an upcoming fantasy anthology.

The hardcover verion of The Book of Swords, edited by Gardner Dozois, will fill up the bookstores this year. Spotted by the eagle-eyed Comic Book Resources, the description in Amazon places one of the stories in that book in the Game of Thrones universe:

"Fifteen original tales celebrating fantasy's golden age of sword and sorcery, including a new story from George R. R. Martin set in the world of "A Game of Thrones"!"

One word of caution to eager fans: the tale might take place in the same domains inhabited by the Starks and the other clans from A Song of Fire and Ice. However, it does not necessarily happen in the same timeline. Meaning, there's no guarantee that the readers who snap up the anthology will bump into the beloved (and not-so-beloved) faces from HBO's smash hit TV adaptation of the Martin saga.

The seventh season of Game of Thrones might air in June, but it will still prove to be a long wait.
