New Details Emerge on Starkiller Base and A Villain From Star Wars: The Force Awakens

There has been no shortage of information on The Force Awakens lately, and now we've gotten some juicy tidbits about the villains of the film. Director J.J. Abrams and Domhnall Gleeson, who plays General Hux, sat down with Entertainment Weekly to unveil some details on the Starkiller Base, and the relationship between General Hux and Kylo Ren.

Gleeson mentioned that his character "is kind of opposite Kylo Ren. They have their own relationship, which is individual and unusual. One of them strong in different ways than the other. They're both vying for power." He went on to talk about General Hux's personality. "There's an air of superiority, and being better than those people around you." He also mentioned that Hux is ruthless, and values order and power above all else.

In additional to this character information, J.J. Abrams had some things to say about Starkiller Base, the First Order's new ultra-powerful weapon. "It is very much – and it's acknowledged as such in the movie – apparently another Death Star. But what it's capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power."

More powerful than the Death Star? That's intense! Abrams went on to mention that Starkiller Base destroys suns (and in turn, solar systems), rather than planets. Now I'm even more excited about The Force Awakens, and how the conflict will play out when such a dangerous weapon is involved. I'm also really interested to see the dynamic between General Hux and Kylo Ren, and how they work together. I've seen Domhnall Gleeson in a few films, and I have no doubt that he has the acting chops to nail the performance of Hux.

I hope that the villains in The Force Awakens have valid reasons and motivations for operating a weapon as deadly as Starkiller Base. I trust Abrams though, and his ability to make even the evil characters three-dimensional. Regardless, it was good to get some new info about General Hux, and we'll keep you posted when we find out more information about the film!
