New Blade Runner 2049 Photos: The Hunt for Deckard Is On

Recent photos released by the producers of Blade Runner 2049 show a futuristic Los Angeles in its darker, sadder glory. There's not much action but all the stars are on show, and the overall production design does convey the melancholic tone of the movie.

The first Blade Runner movie, directed by Ridley Scott and released more than 30 years ago, was a disturbing look at the evolution of androids or replicants. In a reversal of the Terminator movies which came later, they were hunted by trained cops or Blade Runners like Deckard (Harrison Ford). Existential themes like the meaning of intelligence, the symbiotic relationship between man and machine, and the future of an unfeeling world gave the movie a cult following.

Not much is known about the sequel except that Scott and Ford are back to direct and act, respectively. Newcomer Ryan Gosling is the new Blade Runner who is looking for the fugitive Ford who may or may not be a replicant.

Check the photos below released by the movie producers through Facebook. They do evoke a grittier look, living up to director DenisVillenueve'svow to eschew CGI and make the scenes look as realistically as possible.

Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villenueve and starring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, will come out in theaters on October 6, 2017.
