Netflix's Death Note Will Feature Gory Kills

Netflix live-action version of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Death Note will be darker than the anime, according to a new featurette Netflix recently released. We already know that director Adam Wingard's American version of the popular Japanese manga/anime will alter the original story, but it looks like the level of violence will also change as well. Anime shows could often be gory but the bloodiness in the anime was minimized. But the new footage seems to confirm that the new version won't be holding back.

The new footage shows victims dying in horrific ways, including a man choking out a lot of blood, and a group of men jumping off a tall building. This is what happens when a teenager acquires the ultimate power to control life and death. The featurette also includes commentary from director Adam Wingard and the stars of the film. I'm so excited to watch it this month.

You can watch the featurette below:

Synopsis:

What if you had the power to decide who lives and who dies? We suggest you obey the rules. Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone's name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

The Death Note film will be available for streaming on Netflix on August 25.
