Netflix Planning On Making An Umbrella Academy Series For 2018

Netflix already has a bunch of superhero shows thanks to Marvel, but it looks like they want to add more to their roster. News has it that they want to adapt Gerard Way (Yes, the one from My Chemical Romance) and Gabriel Ba's comic, The Umbrella Academy into a TV show.

In a press statement, vice president of originals at Netflix Cindy Holland said:

"I am thrilled that The Umbrella Academy has found a home at Netflix. I couldn't think of a better place for the vision Gabriel Bá and myself had when creating the comic, and cannot wait for people to experience that world as a live action show."

I remember reading the series way back in high-school, and I can say that it sort of reminds me of the X-Men only more gothic looking. When they first announced Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, The Umbrella Academy was the first series that came to mind.

Holland continues:

"What drew us to The Umbrella Academy is that it's wholly unique, visual and stylized. These aren't the usual superheroes, and this series will embrace the singular tone of the graphic novels — dark yet humorous, supernatural yet grounded in reality. We're excited to see this world and introduce these unforgettable heroes to Netflix members around the globe."

The series currently has a 10-episode order on Netflix, and Steve Blackman (Fargo) is attached as showrunner. Gerard Way is also attached to the project as a co-executive producer.

The Umbrella Academy is pending an announcement on 2018.
