Netflix App Shows The Punisher Might Be Coming in 2017

Netflix has only confirmed Iron Fist and The Defenders for 2017, but the Netflix mobile app may have leaked that there are plans for The Punisher as well, Comic Book reports. People are finding a "landing page" for The Punisher TV series, something that typically only happens when the series is going to released in less than a year. While this isn't confirmation of a 2017 release, it is an intriguing hint to the possibility of one.

The page lists "The Punisher" and gives a basic series description. The logline says "After the murder of his family, Frank Castle is both haunted and hunted. In the criminal underworld, he'll become known as The Punisher". It should be noted that no date is given for the release of the series.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos has previously stated that The Punisher, Daredevil Season 3 and Jessica Jones season 2 won't premiere until 2018. There are plenty of shows in the meantime, though. Luke Cage is coming on September 30th of this year, while Iron Fist and the Defenders are coming in 2017.

It's entirely possible that the landing page is just Netflix being more prepared for the series release than usual. After all, they know Marvel series have a huge fanbase, so they might want to make it obvious a Punisher series is coming from an early date. The character debuted in Daredevil season 2 and there's been a lot of anticipation for his return.

What do you think of the news? Do you think it's a possibility The Punisher will come in 2017? Are you excited for the series?
