NYCC Panel For The Punisher Cancelled After Las Vegas Shooting

With The Defenders out of the way, Netflix and Marvel were gearing up for the release of the Punisher spinoff series. With the Las Vegas shooting happening recently, though, the companies have decided to cancel their panel for The Punisher at the New York Comic-Con this year.

Netflix and Marvel released a statement (via Deadline):

"We are stunned and saddened by this week's senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn't be appropriate for Marvel's The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy."

With the Punisher being a crazed and armed vigilante, it might not be the best idea for the show to get some attention close to the events of the Las Vegas shooting. Some are even thinking Netflix was planning a surprise launch for the show, but considering recent events, they may not just have to cancel the NYCC appearance, but delay the premiere for The Punisher as well.

All things considered, I think Punisher will still have a strong following on Netflix. After the duds that were Iron Fist, The Defenders, and most recently Inhumans, Marvel TV needs to regain its footing. Hopefully Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle is the man for the job.

The Punisher still has no specific release date, but it's set to come out sometime in 2017.
