NBC Drops Xena: Warrior Princess’ Television Reboot

Xena: Warrior Princess was supposed to get a reboot, however it seems like NBC's decided against reviving the cult American fantasy television series.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke decided to update fans on the status of the Xena reboot, confirming that the project was no longer being developed by the network.

"Nothing is happening on that right now. We looked at some material; we decided at that point that it didn't warrant the reboot. I'd never say never on that one because it's such a beloved title but the current incarnation of it is dead."

This comes as a shock. Not only did original Xena co creators Sam Riami and Rob Tapert sign in on the reboot, the two had also managed to get Javer Grillo-Marxauch to write the pilot episode with plans to develop a romantic relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, one of her onscreen "gal pals."

The project gained a lot of traction for its potential – not only do TV viewers love series with a taste for violence, they also have an interest for shows that push the envelope. Unfortunately, it seems like the warrior princess' reboot's been put back on the shelf.
