Mr. Robot Creator To Write A Star Wars Spin-Off Movie?

Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy had recently announced that she hopes that the next Star Wars anthology movie would be announced this summer, and rumors have come out that Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail is being tapped to write the movie.

The news comes from Omega Underground who says that Esmail had been attending multiple pitch meetings in order to negotiate him writing a Star Wars movie. However, this news should be taken with a grain of salt until we get the official announcements from Lucasfilm.

As of now, there's still no idea on what Star Wars movie Esmail will be writing for, but everyone's best bet is either the Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off movie or the Boba Fett ensemble film. There's also no news on whether Esmail will direct the film himself, but seeing as The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson had a track record with directing Breaking Bad, Esmail may be very well filling in the director's chair.

Personally, I'm hoping that an anthology movie will focus on Wedge Antilles Rogue Squadron which formed after the Battle of Yavin. There's a lot of characters that could be explored there, and it's always a treat to see Original Trilogy elements getting updated to modern standards.

The next anthology movie, Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, comes out on May 25, 2018.
