Mortal Kombat Reboot Movie Gets a Director

The reboot that's been long in the pipeline and in fans' wish lists. Now, New Line cinema's project reboot may become a reality, now that someone will be sitting on the director's chair.

Variety broke the news that Simon McQuoid, known for his commercials for Halo and PlayStation, will now be directing the Mortal Kombat reboot movie. Together with McQuoid, some well-known names like James Wan, Michael Clear, Todd Garner, Jeremy Stein, Greg Russo, and Lawrence Kasanoff.

So far, the names of the production team are the only ones revealed for the reboot. There are no details on what the story will be about. Although, it should be worth noting that Mortal Kombat has had two movies so far. Back in 1995, Paul W.S. Anderson's movie featured the tournament on the island angle, while the sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation came two years after.

There had also been a web series titled Mortal Kombat: Legacy. As far as games are concerned, fans may also be familiar to the long-running franchise, as well as the fairly recent Mortal Kombat X from NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros, both on consoles and mobile.

I've only sampled the mobile version of the game, but I could say that a reboot movie may be a great way to bring back trust in the film adaptation of the game. NetherRealm Studios has always provided with good material for its games, and I've always wanted an Injustice movie based on their DC-centric titles.

Hopefully, the reboot will bring in some of the flavor that the games have—the fatalities alone will be an unbelievable edgy adaptation.
