Monster Hunter Movie With Mila Jovovich Starts Shooting this September

It looks like Hollywood isn't going to stop making video game movies, now that a Monster Hunter one has been announced. Based on the popular series of Capcom games, it is a very interesting move from Constantin Films since no one really associates the franchise with a story. Still, it should get the attention of fans, for better or worse.

Variety has announced that Paul W.S. Anderson of the Resident Evil movies will be directing and Mila Jovovich will star in it. Jovovich also starred in the Resident Evil films, so fans will probably have mixed feelings about this announcement. It starts shooting this September at an estimated budget of $60 million.

The Resident Evil films have never been critical darlings but the fact that there are more than three of these movies is quite a feat, regardless of quality. That means there is definitely an audience for these films and they might be interested in Monster Hunter because of the people involved.

Admittedly, Monster Hunter wasn't always a big name franchise for Capcom. The first few games struggled in sales outside Japan and it took the various 3DS titles to bring the series to prominence. The most recent game in the series, Monster Hunter: World, came out on PS4 and was an enormous success, making a ton of money and getting a ton of acclaim from critics. A PC version is coming soon.

No release date for Monster Hunter has been announced.
