Minecraft Movie Loses Writer and Director

After the success of The Lego Movie and the failure of The Emoji Movie, it makes sense to that a Minecraft film would be coming out as well. Though the game is mostly about building, the two Story Mode titles from Telltale Games proved that a decent narrative can come from this world. Fans are hoping that the movie could be a good one but unfortunately, it has hit a snag as the director and writer has left the project.

The Wrap reports that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney, who was slated to write and direct the movie, has left the project. McElhenney even told the website that the project isn't happening right now, which might be a bit sad for players of this massively popular game.

Warner Bros. has tapped Masters of the Universe writers Aaron and Adam Nee to write a new script for the film. Keep in mind that they are writing the reboot of the film and are not the ones who made the original film that bombed back in the 80's. This massive change also means that the film will not make its planned May 24, 2019 release date.

Only time will tell what happens to the Minecraft movie. The game continues to sell well and is available on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, and New 3DS.
