Michael Barbieri Joins Spider-Man: Homecoming

14-year-old actor Michael Barbieri has joined the cast of Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Homecoming, Jon Watt's reboot of the Marvel franchise, Heroic Hollywood reports.

Barbieri, best known for his role in Ira Sach's Little Men, also recently joined the cast of Sony Pictures' adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. He's playing Timmy in that film opposite Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey.

According to Comicbook's sources, Barbieri will be playing a new character based off the Ultimate Spider-Man character Ganke, who is a trusted best friend of the other Spider-Man, Miles Morales. His affinity for superheroes and optimism are expected from Barbieri's character. It sounds like he's a strong supporting character whom Peter Parker will probably need to save in the movie.

Barbieri joins the Spider-Man: Homecoming cast that already includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Michael Keaton as an unkonwn villain (believed to be the Vulture) and Zendaya as a character named Michelle. Laura Harrier and Tony Revolori also have mystery roles in the film.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released on July 7, 2017.
