Marvel's Spider-Gwen Comic Ends in July

When Marvel first announced Spider-Gwen, fans were immediately intrigued. This was an alternate universe where Gwen Stacy was bitten by a radioactive spider and gained superpowers, which resulted in her becoming that universe's Spider-Woman. The series has been one of Marvel's more successful ones, so it's shocking to know that it is going to end in July.

Series co-creator Jason Latour confirmed that the comic would be ending in July through Twitter. Latour assured fans that the series wasn't canceled due to low sales but was the natural end he and artist Robbi Rodriguez had for the character. It's nice seeing a series like this end in a civil manner, though fans of the heroine will likely be sad over the news.

First appearing in Edge of the Spider-Verse #2, Spider-Gwen quickly became a fan-favorite and got an ongoing series after the conclusion of Spider-Verse. The character was so popular that she ended up appearing in the Web Warriors series and even popped up during The Clone Conspiracy, which was a huge Amazing Spider-Man event.

Does this mean that we will never see Spider-Gwen? That's doubtful. Marvel Comics is a business after all and if the demand for the character's return is high, we can expect a shiny new #1 with a new creative team in the future.

Spider-Gwen #34 is the final issue of the series and comes out this July.
