Marvel's New Avengers Gets An All-American Makeover

Perfect timing for Independence Day: Marvel just revealed a new patriotic Avengers team. Today, the company revealed (via Washington Post) a new ongoing series called U.S. Avengers.

The new series will be written by Al Ewing and illustrated by Paco Medina, and it will follow the next evolution of A.I.M. This former science-obsessed terrorist groupwas recently taken over by Sunspot, who used A.I.M.'s island hideout and resources to build his own rogue group of Avengers. In this series, Sunspot takes that mission to another level by transforming A.I.M. into "American Intelligence Mechanics." This new Avengers aims to fill the void left by the fallen S.H.I.E.L.D. and protect the United States.

The new team's members are Sunspot Cannonball, Squirrel, Red Hulk, Pod, Danielle Cage, and a new Iron Patriot (the daughter of Tony Stark's late friend Ho Yinsen).

Here's what Ewing told The Washington Post:

"We wanted a couple of members that'd speak to the U.S. in the title — hence super-scientist and supporting player Dr. Toni Ho stepping up to the main team as the new Iron Patriot, and General Ross waiting in the wings as the Red Hulk, and, of course, Danielle Cage, the Captain America of about thirty years in the future, who'll be joining us for at least the first arc, as an enemy from her time comes to ours to stir up trouble."

U.S.Avengers #1 will be released on Fall 2016.
