Marvel's Black Panther is Now The Highest-Grossing Superhero Film in The U.S.

The superhero king of Wakanda is now also the new superhero king of the U.S. box office.

Marvel's Black Panther has become the highest-grossing superhero film in North America.

On Saturday, Black Panther reached $630 million in earnings, surpassing the $623.4 million earned by 2012's The Avengers so it's now the highest-grossing superhero film in the U.S.

Globally, Black Panther earned $1.2 billion. It hasn't surpassed the worldwide total of The Avengers ($1.5 billion) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4 billion), and Avengers: Infinity War will probably surpass Black Panther's record after it hits theaters next month, but the Ryan Coogler-directed film is expected to surpass Iron Man 3's worldwide gross ($1.214 billion) by the end of this weekend.

Black Panther is now in theaters. T'Challa will return in Avengers: Infinity War, which will be out on April 27, 2018.
