Marvel Reportedly Trying To Bring James Gunn Back For GOTG 3

For the past few weeks, there might have been little hope seeing Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn getting rehired by Disney for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but now rumor has it that Marvel Studios is trying to get the filmmaker back on board the movie.

According to a new report by Deadline, Marvel is currently working on back-channel conversations with Disney. Apparently, the studio is trying its best to strike a deal with the Mickey Mouse House, one that might bring Gunn back not just for any other Marvel Cinematic Universe film, but for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

"Nobody is talking about it, but sources said that back-channel conversations are taking place between Marvel Studios and Disney,"the publication revealed in its most recent report regarding the issue. "Sources said the Marvel contingent is trying to persuade Disney to explore a compromise that might bring Gunn back into the fold for Guardians 3, something that clearly would be best for the franchise. There is no clash or strong-arming here."

This new report comes a day after The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Disney was thinking of keeping Gunn's script for the film, probably so that it could help retain the consistency of the Guardians of the Galaxy brand even if it were to try and find a new director for the project.

Of course, this new report, as with the others, should be taken with a grain of salt. Sure it comes from a reliable source, however, until Marvel and Disney make a confirmation we can't be certain of anything. If it is true and Marvel is fighting to keep Gunn, we hope that both studios find a way to settle the matter quickly.

Sure Gunn might have made pretty offensive tweets before, but that was fourteen years in the past, and the director has long since apologized for them. It'd be such a waste for Disney to let go of such a great director as Gunn who made a small-time ragtag group of thugs-turned-heroes like the Guardians of the Galaxy into the massive hit that it is today.

What do you think? Should Disney rehire Gunn? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
