Marvel Releases New Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Prelude Comic For Film

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is going to make its way to the big screen in five months time, and it seems like Marvel has begun kicking off its campaign for the sequel to the brassy and hilarious space romp by releasing a comic book adaptation of the original Guardians of the Galaxy.

After revamping the 1969 Guardians of the Galaxy with a newer version in 2008, Marvel's cosmic superhero team rose to significant prominence after Marvel Studios released James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy film in 2014. Now the studio is preparing the movie's sequel, and to amp up the hype even further, Marvel is preparing to release a comic book based on the original film.

Titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Prelude #1, the comic takes fans back to the where Star Lord was abducted as a child. A preview of the comic can be found over at the Flickering Myth and those interested in grabbing a hard copy of the comic can get it at $2.99 once it's released on Jan. 4 next year.

Though leading online film ticket retailer Fandango had already revealed earlier this week that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes second to Star Wars: Episode VIII as the most highly anticipated film of 2017, it seems like Marvel makes sure that its comic audience gets up to speed once the film rolls in.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is slated for release on May 5, 2017.
