Marvel Names C.B. Cebulski New Editor-In-Chief

In a rather surprising move, Marvel has announced that C.B. Cebulski will be replacing Axel Alonso as Marvel's Editor-In-Chief. Alonso had been the company's EIC since 2011, editing plenty of acclaimed books, but is also responsible for the relaunch/event fatigue Marvel has made fans feel for the longest time. Now that Cebulski is in charge, it will be interesting to see how the comics change with his presence.

Marvel broke the news on The Hollywood Reporter, claiming that Alonso leaving was a mutual decision. Prior to his new role, Cebulski has been headquartered in Shanghai, negotiating deals for Marvel with Japan, China, and South Korea. Cebulski said that his new role is an honor, saying that he was blown away by the new opportunity.

With Marvel losing talent to DC Comics, particularly writer Brian Michael Bendis, and artist Olivier Coipel, this might be a good move for the company. According to Bleeding Cool, C.B. is quite liked by a number of creators and has brought a number of interesting Marvel projects to light, including Brian K. Vaughan's acclaimed The Runaways.

Cebulski will soon be transferred to New York, where he will take on the duties of an EIC. Only time will tell if he brings Marvel out of the current slump it's in, given the lack of big sales for Marvel Legacy.
