Marvel Head Kevin Feige Clarifies Venom’s Connection To The MCU

A lot of fans were outraged at Sony for moving forward with their Venom movie, and clashing reports have been saying that this Venom is either connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or not. Marvel head Kevin Feige has commented on the connections, and it looks like Sony will not be having Marvel on board for this project.

In an interview with AlloCine, Feige clarifies:

"For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It's a Sony Project."

Looking at this now, it's not outright stating that Venomwon't be connected to the MCU, but it does say that Marvel has nothing to do with this project from Sony.

I think it's entirely possible for Sony to make this Venom movie without referencing the MCU as much as Spider-Man: Homecoming is, but it's downright ridiculous if they're not planning to have Tom Holland's Peter Parker clash with Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock. After all, Venom is Spider-Man's archnemesis, and his entire thing is that he's the anti-Spider-Man. That's like making a string of movies about Voldemort and he never ever clashes with Harry Potter.

Back in April, Sony producer Eric Carroll clarified in a statement:

"Going forward we would definitely treat [future Spider-Man movies] all as the same slate. So we would be as strategic about where future Spider-Man movies fall in the MCU of it all as we would if Sony weren't involved, because there's nothing in it for us or Sony to put a movie out at the wrong time or start confusing the continuity."

I guess the future of Sony's Marvel characters are a bit murky for now, and we'll just have to wait and see what they plan to do with all these Spider-Man characters that they're planning to put into movies without Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Homecoming comes out July 7.
