Marvel Freezes Captain America Again

Marvel Legacy was touted as a re-branding that would bring these classic heroes back to their roots, but it looks like that concept has gone overboard for Steve Rogers. On February, Captain America #698 will have the character frozen again before he wakes up in a new era that he has to get used to. Sound familiar? If anything, giving Captain America a story like this definitely lives up to the Legacy name.

The storyline will be called Out of Time and will take place after the "shocking ending" of Captain America #697. Tom Brevoort, Marvel's Executive Editor, discussed how this new era would be a huge challenge for Steve Rogers and that it would all lead to a big blowout for issue #700. Only time will tell if this is a worthy way to celebrate the character's epic milestone, but given Mark Waid's track record, Steve is probably in good hands.

Waid is no stranger to Captain America, writing for the character a number of times, including a modern redux of his origin in the mini-series Captain America: Man Out of Time. The acclaimed writer will be joined by artist and co-plotter Chris Samnee, who he previously worked with on Black Widow and Daredevil. Samnee is also working on the current arc of the series.

Captain America #698 is scheduled for a February 7 release.
