Marvel Announces Doctor Strange: Damnation With Secret Empire Creative Team

Marvel has announced a new five-issue mini-series called Doctor Strange: Damnation, which has the Sorcerer Supreme - or former Sorcerer Supreme as his ongoing series will tell you - try and restore Las Vegas after the disastrous events of Secret Empire, which leads to the return of Mephisto. The series will be written by Secret Empire writer Nick Spencer and current Doctor Strange scribe Donnie Cates, with artist Rod Reis illustrating the adventure.

Spencer told Comic Book that he wanted to make a fun, explosive story with a host of Marvel's mystic and horror characters. Strange will be joined by Blade, Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, and Moon Knight, which should make for a really fun team.

Interestingly enough, Cates revealed that the series would take place after his first arc in the ongoing Doctor Strange book. Fans that picked up the book know that Loki is the current Sorcerer Supreme, winning the title from Stephen Strange in a tournament that hasn't been shown yet. Stephen has become a veterinarian, using his magic to talk to animals and help fix them better.

When the first slate of Marvel Legacy titles was announced, fans were surprised to not see Nick Spencer's name in any of the titles. The writer had written long runs on Sam Wilson: Captain America and Steve Rogers: Captain America, culminating in the Secret Empire event, so not seeing him do anything outside of Not Brand Echh was odd. Seeing him in this series should be interesting, to say the least.

Doctor Strange: Damnation #1 comes out in February 2018.
