Mark Hamill Teases Luke's Relationship With Rey in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Star Wars: The Last Jedi panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando today treated fans with a new poster, the first trailer for the Rian Johnson-directed film, and some info about Kelly Marie-Tran's character.

After he made his opening remarks, Mark Hamill described how he saw each person on the stage.

"I look down, I see Olaf (Josh Gad, the panel host); I see Wonder Woman (Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president); "I see God (Rian Johnson, writer/director of The Last Jedi); I see my daught -- I mean my colleague, (Daisy Ridley, Rey actress); "I see my son (John Boyega, Finn actor); If this one was any cuter would be an actual Disney Princess (Kelly Marie-Train, who plays Rose in The Last Jedi.)

It's clear that the way Mark Hamill teased Daisy Ridley triggered a loud reaction from the crowd. One of the most popular theories about Rey's parentage is that she's the daughter of Luke Skywalker. The Force-vision that Rey saw in The Force Awakens when he grabbed Luke's lightsaber suggests there's a strong connection between the two characters somehow. Her genetic link with the Jedi Master could explain why she's strong with the Force. Of course, it's possible that Hamill is just throwing a red herring but I wouldn't be surprised if that theory will turn out to be true.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to release in theaters on December 15, 2017. The film also features returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher. Benicio Del Toro, and Kelly Marie Tran and Laura Dern make their Star Wars debut in this film.
