Mark Hamill Reveals One Improvised Scene From Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Luke Skywalker's character arc continues to be a hot topic whenever Star Wars: The Last Jedi is brought up. To this day, the film continues to be divisive amongst fans, with many pointing to Luke's decision to cut himself off from the Force as the catalyst for controversy. While fans will continue to debate over whether Luke's overall journey was a good one or not, they might be interested to know that his actor, Mark Hamill, has great improvisation awareness.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the actor revealed one scene where he had to improvise; his acknowledgment of C3PO.

After speaking with Leia, Luke was just supposed to head out to the battlefield and take on his former student Kylo Ren. However, Hamill noted that C3PO was standing there and how Luke can't just ignore him. The actor talked about the history these characters have, which lead to the nod Threepio gets near the end.

"Initially, I didn't acknowledge Threepio, I walked right past him. I said, 'Rian, look it, after all those years of service, even though we haven't been in contact in recent years, Threepio was the closest to a sidekick I had. Harrison had Chewie and I had Artoo and Threepio, but [Rian's] so accommodating and so collaborative. He said, 'Oh, absolutely, you should go over there.' We didn't really have time to script anything, just to acknowledge him, and that's what I did."

Considering how The Force Awakens was criticized for Leia hugging Rey instead of Chewie when Han Solo died, this was a smart move on the part of Hamill. Small character interactions like this are always nice to see and prove how necessary Hamill's knowledge of the Star Wars lore is.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available now on digital outlets, while the Blu-Ray comes out on March 27.
