Mark Hamill Remembers Rekindling His Connection With Carrie Fisher In The Last Jedi

The world lost a great woman when Carrie Fisher passed away in December last year. The ferociously funny and down-to-earth Star Wars actress, writer and mental health advocate had been a legend who had inspired so many people.

Speaking in an interview for the 40thStar Wars anniversary cover feature of Variety, Fisher's Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill remembers what it was like working with the actress in their most recent film together, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Staying in London not far off from the Pinewood Studios, Hamill and Fisher got the chance to reignite their brother-sister dynamic.

The two had competitions where they tried to see who'd get a million Twitter followers first during the set and when Hamill won, he said that he "told Carrie, ‘Part of your problem is you write in these impenetrable emojis.' Her tweets looked like rebus puzzles."

Hamill and Fisher also talked about their mortality.

"We got to talking about one of our favorite scenes in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which is when Tom and Huck go to their own funeral, and they're up in the balcony, hearing their own eulogies So then I said, ‘Look, if I go first, just promise me you'll heckle my funeral.' And she went, ‘Absolutely, if you'll do the same for me.' "

The DC voice actor and Star Wars legend had always had a good relationship with Fisher. In the interview Hamill also admits how much he had been attracted to Fisher from the very first time they worked together in A New Hope, only to cool things off into friendship later on.

"We were really attracted to each other. We got to the point where we were having our make-out sessions—and then we pulled back," Hamill said. "A great way to cool any amorous feelings is laughter, and Carrie had this sort of Auntie Mame desire to find humor in everything. We also realized that, if we did this, everything would fundamentally change. It's the When Harry Met Sally plot—can we still be friends after intimacy? Wisely, we avoided that."

Hamill must miss Fisher so much, and so must fans who saw the Star Wars legend as brilliantly funny and honest ray of feminine power and spirit. Hearts will probably break again seeing Fisher on the big screen for the last time in The Last Jedi.

Also featuring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o, Benicio Del Toro, Kelly Marie Tran, and Laura Dern, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to premiere on December 15, 2017.
