Margot Kidder Didn't Like How Amy Adams' Lois Lane Was Portrayed

Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in Richard Donner's 1978 Superman movie and the sequels, would be down to appear on a DC Comics TV Show, but she isn't too fond of how the current DC Cinematic Universe is treating Lois, Hey U Guys reports. She didn't seem to like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice overall, in fact. She blamed the movie's dourness on cynicism on the part of the studios.

"I think there was a cynical decision on the part of the studios, which are now owned by multi-national conglomerates just like everything else on the planet. So they would make these artistic decisions by non-artists – guys would want to hit the millennial demographic because they literally make up about one quarter of the population." If Kidder was right and they were targeting millenials, I guess it didn't work with a millenial like me, as I wasn't too fond of the cynicism in the movies myself.

Kidder felt that the movies also underserved Amy Adams in her role as Lois Lane. "They took one of the best American actresses' around, Amy Adams, and didn't give her anything to do! I mean, how stupid is that? They made her what used to be the girlfriend, which kind of ended in the 60s with women's rights." Presumably, Kidder is referring to how Adams was mainly relegated to damsel in distress in Batman v Superman with her role as a journalist mainly serving as a way to get her in trouble. I agree with that, but in Man of Steel, Lois's as an investigative journalist drove the plot a bit more and was better done overall, in my opinion. And to be fair, Amy Adams' Lois at least never had Superman take away her agency with a skeevy brainwashing kiss like the version Margot Kidder played did.

Despite all her problems, Kidder said she'd be up for appearing in a DC Universe TV show, "Depending on the script or what they wanted me to do." She said, "I am 67, I am an old broad now! So I look back at this with much more amusement than I did. I don't have a career I need to worry about protecting. My life has nothing to do with movies anymore. I live in a little town in Montana and basically do political activism. So I guess it would be fun to fly-in and do a couple of days work."

While Kidder's attitude may seem contradictory, it's worth remembering that the current Supergirl tv show is far more optimistic in tone compared to the current DC movies and more in line with the hopeful spirit of Donner's Superman movies. Adams would likely be far more comfortable with that show judging from her opinions and that's most likely where she'd get to have a cameo too.

I agree that I want a bit more for Lois Lane in the movies than she's currently getting. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with Margot Kidder? Would you like to see her make an appearance in a DC TV show?
