Marc Webb's run with Spider-Man may be over, but he was pretty involved with the development of the other Spider-Man spinoffs before the projects were ultimately cancelled. Talking to Den of Geek, Webb opens up about what could have been for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and Sinister Six.
Webb explains:
"Yeah, we were talking about the Sinister Six. They were going to make a Sinister Six movie before we did the third one… Chris Cooper was going to come back and play the Goblin. We were going to freeze his head, and then he was going to be brought back to life. And then there was that character called The Gentleman. We had some notions about how to do it, but I think maybe we were thinking too far ahead when we started building in those things. But it was a fun exercise. I look back very fondly on those days."
A lot of fans will remember that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had teased the arrival of the Sinister Six very heavily with looks at the new Doctor Octopus' tentacles and Vulture's wings. Amazing Spider-Man 3 was supposed to have Peter Parker face all of them at once with Chris Cooper's Green Goblin in the helm.
Though I would love to see more Spidey villains, I'm a lot more pleased with the direction that Spider-Man is going now. Tom Holland is absolutely perfect as Peter Parker, and Homecoming just brought so many new things to the story that I think it was the right move for Sony to cancel their plans.
We still don't have a release date for the Spider-Man Homecoming sequel, but the Venom spinoff from Sony comes out Oct. 5, 2018.
